The Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia (RASWA) is delighted to announce that Mia Davies has joined its Council, bringing with her more than two decades of leadership and public service dedicated to regional communities and agriculture.

Raised on a broadacre cropping and sheep farm in the Wheatbelt, Ms Davies understands firsthand how food and fibre production underpin the social and economic fabric of regional communities. During her 17 years in Parliament, including as Leader of the Opposition and Minister for Water, Sport & Recreation, and Forestry, she consistently championed initiatives that strengthened agriculture, regional sustainability and community development.

As Minister for Water, Ms Davies was responsible for the landmark Water for Food initiative, a multimillion-dollar program that expanded irrigated agriculture precincts across Western Australia. As a regional Member, Mia was a regular attendee at Agricultural Shows and committed to building and supporting networks championing agriculture and its importance to the State and national economy.

RASWA President John Snowball, said Ms Davies’ appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the Society.

“As we approach our 200th year in 2031 and prepare to embark on the development of our next five-year strategic plan in 2026, Mia’s deep understanding of agriculture, policy and regional communities will be invaluable. She brings both big-picture strategy and practical experience that will help us plan a resilient and future-focused path for the Society.”

Ms Davies said she was honoured to join the Council.

“The Royal Agricultural Society has a proud legacy of celebrating and advancing agriculture. I look forward to working with my fellow councillors to ensure that legacy continues, while also helping to shape new opportunities for producers, communities and the wider State.”
