Students from around the state tested their technical knowledge, teamwork, and agricultural skills in the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia’s (RASWA) annual Farm Skills competition.
Teams of six from Narrogin, Cunderdin, Harvey, Denmark, and Morawa agricultural colleges gathered in the Main Arena at Claremont Showground ready to take part in five core events comprising of fence construction, chemical safety, first aid, tractor driving, and sheep assessment. In addition to this, teams could take part in nine optional events which tested broader agricultural abilities including firefighting, prime lamb appraisal, and pressing a bail of wool.
WA College of Agriculture Denmark was crowed the Overall Champion School for 2025 following outstanding performances across multiple disciplines.
The Farm Skills competition is designed to equip students with practical skills for their future careers, reflecting the daily work practices they may undertake in the agricultural industry.
It dates back to 1990 where nine teams participated, marking the beginning of what has become a proud annual tradition celebrating the next generation of Western Australia’s agricultural workforce.
RASWA CEO Robyn Sermon says it is great to see the camaraderie and a sense of pride between the colleges.
“The Farm Skills competition promotes youth engagement in agriculture and celebrates the next generation of skilled regional leaders,” she said.
“We’re really pleased that all five WA agricultural colleges took part, showcasing teamwork, initiative, and a high standard of training.
“The competition highlights our ongoing commitment to supporting hands-on learning and fostering agricultural engagement within the state.”
The Farm Skills competition is proudly sponsored by John Deere (tractor driving), St John WA (first aid), Sprayline (chemical safety), and Waratah (fence construction).
