A field of 61 of Western Australia’s finest artists have been shortlisted for the Perth Royal Art Prize for Landscape with a prize pool of over $23,000. This prestigious competition highlights exceptional talent across the state, with artists from Warmun to Albany nominated for the 2025 accolades.
The prize, established over 50 years ago by the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia (RASWA) in 1974, has grown in prominence and serves as an important platform for both emerging and established artists. First prize is a significant $20,000 and non-acquisitive, providing the winning artist the opportunity to sell their work at the exhibition.
RASWA Chief Executive Officer Robyn Sermon commented on the quality of the record 288 submissions for the 2025 competition, “We’re excited to see such a rich and diverse showcase of artistic talent. The range of responses to the landscape theme demonstrates not only the depth of creativity in WA but also the importance of celebrating and supporting our local arts community.”
Perth Royal Art Prize Curator Sandra Murray commended the finalists for their innovative interpretations of landscape, “This year’s finalists reflect a bold engagement with landscape in all its forms. The shortlisted works are imaginative and technically accomplished, I look forward to sharing them with the public.”
The 2025 selection panel was comprised of David Attwood – Artist and Sessional Academicbased in Boorloo/Perth, Aimee Dodds – Associate Curator, The Art Gallery of Western Australia, and Sandra Murray – Art Prize Curator and Independent Curator and Arts Consultant.
All artworks will be available for public viewing and purchase, providing artists with a valuable opportunity to connect with new audiences and potential buyers.
The public exhibition will be held at the Wilkinson Gallery at the Claremont Showground from 31 August to 7 September 2025, with free admission and free parking.
