Smart Farms

Agricultural Education at the Perth Royal Show

Experience agriculture in action at the Perth Royal Show. Our in-Show youth programs give students the chance to step into the heart of the industry, from competitions and live demonstrations to real interactions with animals, producers and experts.

Step into the Farmyard Nursery, where hands-on animal encounters bring the magic of the farm to life for visitors of all ages. Get up close and personal as you love a lamb, pat a bunny, cuddle a chick or cavy, and even give a pig a scratch, all while meeting rare heritage breeds you won’t often see.

Don’t miss the crowd-favourite pig washing demonstrations, part of the Pigs in Schools Competition, adding a fun and fascinating glimpse into life on the farm.

Step into the future of farming at Smart Farms, a fully immersive discovery zone showcasing the latest in agricultural innovation and sustainability. Designed for kids, families and curious minds, this is where technology meets the paddock in the most exciting way. Create your own futuristic farm on a massive interactive video wall or watch your drawings of drones and satellites spring to life in the Agri–Skies Alive! experience. Inside, hands-on activities like DNA extractions, seed sorting and farm design challenges bring science and agriculture together, blending real-world problem solving with creative play.

Housed within a purpose-built, theatre-style pavilion, Smart Farms is a sensory experience with dynamic lighting, soundscapes and large-scale digital displays that elevate it far beyond a traditional exhibit. Design the farm of the future, code a robot, engineer a super-crop and follow the journey of food from soil to plate. More than just an attraction, it is an eye-opening adventure that redefines agriculture as a high-tech, future-focused industry. Perfect for families, tech-loving teens and anyone curious about where farming is headed, it also offers a powerful glimpse into the exciting careers shaping the future of food.

Discover how food and fibre make their way from paddock to plate through engaging, hands-on activations delivered in partnership with organisations like Foodbank and DPIRD. This is your chance to see the full journey up close, from production to distribution, and understand the systems that keep our communities fed and clothed.

Over the next two years, this pavilion will evolve into a high-tech ecosystem where the physical and digital worlds come together. Think augmented reality overlays, interactive touchpoints and responsive displays that react to what you do, not just what you see. It’s a dynamic, future-focused space designed to mirror real-world industries and scientific environments, turning learning into an experience you can step inside.

For pre school and early primary age, get your hands dirty with the Potato Dig and whip up tasty treats at the Homestead Kitchen.

Cattle Corner is a brand new interactive exhibit in Cattle Lane, designed to bring the world of livestock to life for kids and families. Step in and discover how cattle are raised, what they eat, and the vital role they play in Western Australia’s food system and rural communities. Through engaging, hands-on learning, visitors can explore the journey from farm to plate in a way that’s both fun and easy to understand.

And of course, it wouldn’t be Cattle Corner without getting up close to one of the Show’s most-loved animals. More than just an exhibit, it’s part of the Show’s broader commitment to making agriculture accessible, inspiring curiosity, and sparking the next generation of food and farming champions.

Step into the heart of WA’s dairy industry with daily demonstrations that bring life on the farm up close. Watch how cows are milked, meet friendly calves, and learn what it takes to run a modern dairy operation. It’s a hands-on experience that makes the journey from farm to fridge easy to understand for visitors of all ages.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you might even try your hand at milking a cow yourself. Running daily on AgVenture Hill next to the Dairy Pavilion, it’s an interactive, can’t-miss experience that connects you directly to one of WA’s most important industries.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road and turn your day at the Show into a hands-on adventure the whole family can enjoy. Designed to spark curiosity and exploration, this interactive trail leads kids through a series of fun, engaging stops where they can discover agriculture, science and local produce in a way that feels more like play than learning. Along the way, they’ll collect goodies and experiences that bring each stop to life.

With a Yellow Brick Road backpack in hand, families can unlock snacks and vouchers from participating partners, pick up collectible keepsakes, and dive into creative, hands-on activities at each destination. With multiple stops spread right across the Show, it’s an easy, rewarding way to explore more, learn more, and make the most of your day.
