Western Australia’s finest producers, food industry leaders and media gathered at Claremont Showgrounds on Wednesday 19 February for the official launch of the 2025 Perth Royal Food Awards (PRFA) competition calendar.
Hosted by the Royal Agricultural Society of WA (RASWA), the event kicked off the year’s awards season in delicious fashion, with exclusive tastings of award-winning produce, a thought-provoking panel discussion, and a showcase of the state’s most talented producers.
RASWA Marketing and Community Engagement Manager Marie Campion welcomed guests while Alex Crisp, of MasterChef Australia fame, led a dynamic expert panel featuring food stylist and author Kate Flower, legal and regulatory expert Bill Keane SC, and renowned food safety authority Clare Clouting. The panel explored challenges and opportunities across the food and beverage landscape, from cost pressures on craft beer to the importance of diverse, independent judging processes.
RASWA CEO Robyn Sermon addressed attendees with a clear message: “The PRFA is more than a competition. It’s a powerful platform to elevate the incredible work of WA’s producers, connect them with new audiences, and set quality benchmarks across the industry. As a not-for-profit, our focus is on transparency, integrity and growth for the sector.”
Guests indulged in premium samples from WA’s most celebrated producers, including cheese, smallgoods, baked goods and more. Each guest took home a gift pack featuring PRFA-winning jerky from The Jerky Co, and a copy of A Local Table by Kate Flower. One lucky door prize winner, Luke Marcellino of Container Refrigeration, walked away with a hamper packed with award-winning WA-made treats.
A huge thank you to the 2025 PRFA Champions who attended the event and showcased their delicious local produce:
- The Jerky Co, Wangara (Event Sponsor)
- Eurostyle Smallgoods Butcher, Bibra Lake
- La Delizia Latticini, Victoria Park
- P. Princi Butcher, Bicton
- The Butter People, Bentley
Additional producers featured included Bannister Downs Dairy, Big Loaf Bakery, Brownes Dairy, Dellendale Creamery, Devoted Artisan Butter, Gabriel Chocolate, Mandoon Estate, and Mondo Butchers.
Vision for 2025 and Beyond
With the 2025 competition calendar now officially live, RASWA aims to make this year’s PRFA the biggest celebration of WA produce yet. New award categories, expanded judging diversity, and deeper integration with the Perth Royal Show will amplify recognition for local producers across the state and beyond.
“WA’s food and drink industry is as vast and varied as our geography,” said Kate Flower. “From the North to the South, the quality and innovation coming out of this state is something we should all be proud of.”
Panelist Bill Keane SC added, “Unlike many commercial competitions, PRFA judging is thorough, objective, and grounded in discussion. That integrity is what gives these awards real weight.”
The 2025 PRFA will again feature prominently at the Perth Royal Show, bringing champion producers face-to-face with more than 300,000 showgoers.
