Australia’s leading meat and smallgoods producers have been celebrated at the Royal Agricultural Society of WA’s 2025 Perth Royal Branded Meats and Smallgoods Awards, recognising the craftsmanship, provenance, and innovation behind some of the nation’s best-loved meat products.

This year’s competition drew a record-breaking 245 entries from 44 exhibitors located across Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, showcasing the skill of producers who continue to set the benchmark for quality and flavour in Australian food and agriculture.

A total of 16 Champion Trophies, 42 Gold Medals, 68 Silver Medals and 76 Bronze Medals were awarded.

Robyn Sermon, CEO, Royal Agricultural Society of WA said, “These awards celebrate the producers who bring world-class produce to our plates. Their work not only feeds Australia and beyond, but it also sustains many rural industries and livelihoods. Our mission is to grow the breadth and impact of the awards each year.”

Perth Royal Branded Meats Awards

The Branded Meats categories, spanning beef, pork and lamb, were assessed by a panel of five judges led by Head Judge Stephen Clarke, award-winning Chef, restauranter and consultant. Entries were judged on tenderness, juiciness, flavour, and overall eating experience.

“I’ve been involved in these wonderful awards for a few years now, and there’s an elegance to them, a sense of finesse, pride and community. To win under these conditions means you truly have an exceptional product to share,” said Stephen Clark, Head Judge (Branded Meats).

Western Australian excellence shone through, with Wyloo Pastoral Co (Boyup Brook, WA) claiming multiple honours for its Blackwood Valley Beef, named Champion Grass-Fed Beef, Champion Single Origin Beef, and the overall Champion WA Beef.

Warren Pensini of Wyloo Pastoral Co. and owner of Blackwood Valley Beef said, “Winning three trophies is pretty amazing for us and a real acknowledgment of years of hard work. Producing consistent grass-fed beef in WA isn’t easy, and we’ve invested a lot into regenerating our pastures and refining our system, so it’s incredibly rewarding to see that recognised. This was our first time entering, and the results genuinely surprised us. For smaller producers, the Perth Royal Food Awards are a great benchmark and a valuable marketing tool. We’ll definitely be back next year.”

Queensland producer Stockyard (Toombul, QLD) maintained its national reputation for excellence, winning Champion Grain-Fed Beef for its Stockyard Gold and Champion Wagyu for its Stockyard Kiwami.

Futari Wagyu (O’Connor & Albany, WA) was recognised with Champion Export Beef for its Signature MS 8/9 line, continuing the brand’s rise aa leader in luxury Australian beef.

Peter Gilmour of Futari Wagyu said, “We’re delighted to win the Champion Export Beef Award and get some gold medals in the other categories. The Royal Ag Society of WA’s Perth Royal Food Awards are really important for local producers. It really adds that extra impetus to try harder, produce better – it’s genuine recognition of what we do in our supply chains.”

In lamb, Amelia Park (Busselton & Fremantle, WA) took out Champion Export Lamb, while Wakedale Farm (Beermullah, WA) earned both Champion Open Lamb and Champion WA Lamb, rounding out a strong showing for Western Australia’s producers.

Perth Royal Smallgoods Awards

The Smallgoods Awards were once again a masterclass in craftsmanship and heritage, judged by a panel of seven led by Head Judge Frank Vizzari, co-founder of Princi Smallgoods.

Barbaro Butchers (Greenwood & Wangara, WA) proved a standout, taking home Champion Cooked Product for their Roasted Pork and Champion Continental Smallgoods Product for their Traditional Calabrese Salami.

“We’re very proud to take home two awards at the Perth Royal Food Awards this year. For a small family-owned business, it really helps showcase our product and puts us on the map in what is a very competitive space. It is a special night, particularly to share it with our local producers who deliver a consistent product to us weekly, which ensures we can make smallgoods to these high standards. It’s very important to recognise the quality of West Australian produce. We believe it is some of, if not the best produce in the world. Congratulations to everyone,” said Stefan and Raf Barbaro of Barbaro Food Group.

Eurostyle Smallgoods (Bibra Lake, WA) secured two top trophies, Champion Ham for their Traditional Free-Range Ham on Bone and Champion Dried/Cured Product for their Dry Beef (Bresaola).

Mondo Doro Pty Ltd (Palmyra, WA) was crowned Champion Bacon for its Rindless Rasher Bacon, while The Jerky Co (Wangara, WA) took Champion Jerky/Biltong Strips for its Extra Hot Biltong.

Completing the field of Champions, The British Sausage Company (Bibra Lake, WA) was awarded Champion Traditional Smallgoods for its Princi Casalingo Salami, a nod to the enduring influence of old-world methods in modern Australian butchery.

Frank Vizzari, Head Judge (Smallgoods), said, “The level of skill and attention to detail is incredible. Each year, the competition gets tougher, and that’s a reflection of how high our producers continue to set the bar.”

In an era when many shoppers want to know exactly where their food comes from and how it was produced, the Perth Royal Food Awards offers a trusted benchmark.

Australia’s red-meat industry operates under rigorous traceability systems like the National Livestock Identification System, ensuring each animal is tracked from paddock through processing. With this integrity, the award-winners represent producers who combine local provenance, strong supply-chain transparency and top-tier craft. By choosing these award-winning meats and smallgoods, consumers aren’t just buying flavour, they’re investing in quality, local jobs and the best of Australia’s agriculture.

AAustralians start planning their Christmas feasts, it’s worth taking a moment to think about where your festive favourites come from. To ensure you’re buying quality, look for the Perth Royal Food Awards medal winners and support Australian products,” said Royal Agricultural Society of WA CEO Robyn Sermon.
